LB3 Foundation gives annual sports award to Savannah Blue Jackets

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A local high school basketball team is getting recognized!

Wednesday night, the LB3 Foundation gave out their annual sports award - this year, to the Savannah Blue Jackets!

They won the team of the year award, and their star basketball player Maki Joyner won the receive the Player of the Year Award!

We caught up with Coach George Brown afterward, who said he’s incredibly proud of his athletes for how hard they work on and off the court.

“I got my bachelor’s in four years and my master’s in one so I push that heavy. Even our trophies over here, our academic trophies are higher and bigger than our athletic trophies just because these kids have got to understand that your mind is going to get you out of your situation - not your athletic abilities. So we really try to push, we really try to hone in, I’m just trying to give back to these kids as much as possible. I appreciate them, they appreciate me so hopefully we can continue to keep some special things rolling at Savannah High as long as I’m here.”
