HAVANA, May 4. /TASS/. Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel announced that he is traveling to Russia to participate in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory over fascism and the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"In a few hours, we'll be in beloved Russia to attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the 65th anniversary of the reestablishment of relations between our two nations. Cuba will be in Red Square this May 9th. It's an honor," he wrote on the X social network.
On Saturday, the Cuban President took part together with a delegation from the Russian embassy and the CIS countries in a ceremony of laying of wreaths and flowers at the Memorial to the Soviet Internationalist Soldier on the outskirts of Havana. He also headed an official event in the government complex of the Revolution Palace in the center of the Cuban capital, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Diaz-Canel accepted an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Russian capital. In 2024, the Cuban President also attended the Victory Parade on May 9 on Red Square.
