Joe & The Juice is officially opening its new Liverpool store this weekend. The health-focused coffee and juice bar will be taking over the space formerly occupied by Ace & Tate opticians on Bold Street.

The brand “appeared overnight” in its new premises, located between the Johnny English fish and chip shop and Take 2 charity shop, unveiling a bold pink exterior.

The city's first Joe & the Juice opened inside the Liverpool ONE John Lewis department store following a revamp in 2015. In 2023, after striking a deal with former Liverpool ONE owner Grosvenor, it opened its second location on Paradise Street in what used to be a branch of Utility.

This Saturday, June 21, the Bold Street venue will welcome customers through its doors and, to celebrate, will give away free ice cream from 2pm.

The company will be gifting the first 200 customers its limited-edition summer product, the Power Shake Pop. The icy treat is inspired by the popular Power Shake already on the menu and has been made in collaboration with Danish ice cream producer Hansens.

The new location on Bold Street marks the second time the popular juice bar has taken over a former Utility store, as the Liverpool-born brand operated inside the unit before it was taken over by Amsterdam-based opticians Ace & Tate.

Ace & Tate announced its plans to close its Bold Street location in January this year, sending customers an email that reads: “As of February 2, our Liverpool store will be permanently closing its doors. But don’t worry—our commitment to providing you with eyewear remains unchanged.”

The store said all customers’ prescriptions will be "safely" stored. The email added: “We appreciate your understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused.”

The unit went on the market under Emanuel Oliver Chartered Surveyors at a rental cost of £80,000 per year. The 1,645 sq ft property was advertised as being "located in a prominent position on the pedestrianised section of Bold Street, one of the most popular streets in Liverpool city centre. The shop also benefits from a second entrance from Wood Street at the rear."

The front window of the unit has been covered with the brand's signature logo against a bright pink background, along with the words "opening soon".

Joe & the Juice was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Kaspar Basse in 2002. It initially operated as a standard bar, serving fizzy pop, beer and liquor for special guests.

It took several years for the business to become increasingly focused on its current menu of fresh juices, coffee, healthy shakes, salads, and sandwiches.

It opened several shops in Denmark before breaking into the world of international business, setting up over 50 juice bars in the UK, Germany, Iceland, Norway and Sweden by 2013. It now operates over 350 locations worldwide, including Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and the USA.

The menu is designed with health-conscious customers in mind, with vegan-friendly options, acai and yoghurt bowls, and a wide range of unique coffees and teas, including the iced blueberry matcha latte and white temple tea.
